Mattawana- Edith Elizabeth Groff, 77, of 1 Grassmyer Lane, Mattawana, died at 12:35 p.m., Saturday, October 28, 2000, in the Lewistown Hospital, where she had been a patient for two days.
The Groff family has lived in Mifflin County since August 1998, Prior to that they lived in Millmont for 27 years. They lived in Willow Street until 1953.
Mrs. Groff was born March 31, 1923, in Terre Hill, Lancaster County, a daughter of the late Harry Jacob and Sarah Lucinda Eby Gehman. On March 24, 1945, she married Norman Myer Groff in Lancaster.
She attended the Kantz Grade School.
She was a well-known self-employed baker for more than 25 years who retired in 1987. Mrs. Groff was also a baker for Walnut Acres, Penns Creek, for more than 25 years.
She was a member of the Strode's Mills Mennonite Church, Strode's Mills, and was formerly a member of the Millmont Mennonite Church for many years.
She was very active in numerous church activities.
Surviving in addition to her husband are six children and their spouses, Galen and Phyllis M. Groff of Guatemala, Kenneth and Kathryn A. Groff of Millmont, Samuel and Beverly A. Groff of Bamberg, S.C., David N. and Mary L. Groff of Lewisburg, Sarah G. and N. Daryl Yoder of Mattawana and J. Wesley and Wanda J. Groff of Mount Pleasant Mills; 27 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucy Rudy of Lancaster and Grace Aungst of Port Trevorton; and three brothers, H. Jacob Gehman of Thompsontown, Lester E. Gehman of Manheim, and Martin Gehman of Atmore, AL.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Gehman and John Gehman.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Millmont Mennonite Church, Millmont. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church by Bishop Luke E. Martin, Lancaster County, and Bishop Roy E. Longenecker and David L. Swartzentruber of the Millmont Mennonite Church.
Interment will be in the Millmont Mennonite Cemetery, Lewis Township, Union County.
In keeping with the Mennonite tradition, flowers are to be omitted. Memorials in Edith's memory to the Millmont Mennonite Church, Millmont, PA 17845 will be appreciated.
