Edith I. Bowman, 87, loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2022 in Potomac Falls, Virginia.
Born in Mutterstadt, Germany, she was a legal stenographer when she met her future husband, Lt. Elmo (Lyle) Bowman, US Army, in Ansbach, Germany in 1951. The couple married in February 1954 and she immigrated to the U.S. in July of 1954. Edith proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1957.
Edith accompanied her husband to military assignments is Arizona, California, Taiwan, New Jersey and Belgium. Upon Lyle's retirement in 1979, they moved to Tucson, AZ until July of 1996 when they relocated to Falcons Landing Retirement Community in Potomac Falls, Virginia.
Edith was, first and foremost, a loving homemaker for her husband and children. She was also an active Red Cross Volunteer. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, knitting and crocheting; Edith would often donate her products to charitable organizations to benefit those in need.
Edith was predeceased by her parents, Ernst and Ottilie Schirmer, and sister, Inge Hanisch, all of Ansbach, Germany.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Lyle Bowman of Potomac Falls, VA, son Douglas Bowman and his wife, Patricia, of Orlando, FL; daughter, Michelle Sween and her husband, Eric, of Asbury, NJ; grandchildren, Christopher Bowman, Kristen Semanchik, Jennifer O'Farrell, and Kayla Sween, 6 great-grandchildren, and brother Roland Schirmer of Germany.
In lieu of flowers contribution may be made to the Falcons Landing Benevolence Fund, 20522 Falcons Landing Circle, Potomac Falls, VA 20165.
She will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
