Eddy Mac Teets, 90, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at his residence at Moring Pointe in Franklin. He was born on August 20, 1929 in Broadway, Ohio to Arthur Lee Teets and Lucy (Bolenbaugh) Teets.
He married the love of his life, Martha Jean (Campbell) Teets on October 4, 1953. They celebrated sixty-six years of marriage.
After graduation from Warren G. Harding High School in Marion, Ohio, Eddy joined the United States Army and served three years in the Far East during the Korean War. His military service spanned over twenty-years, six years in the regular Army and sixteen years in the Army Reserve.
Eddy was a 1958 graduate of Franklin College where he received his BA degree in Business Administration and Economics.
He began his career employed at Arvin Industries in Columbus, Indiana. He later worked for Franklin College as an Admissions Councilor and later served as Administrative Assistant to the President and Vice President for Admissions and Financial Aid. He also was a Vice President for Development and Alumni Affairs.
After thirteen years at Franklin College, he was employed by Union Bank and Trust Company in Franklin as Vice President for Marketing and Main Office Branch Manager. Eddy later took a leave from the Bank and ran and was elected as Mayor of Franklin. He served as Mayor from 1988 through 1991. After retirement, and doing some traveling, Eddy took a part-time job for three years as Chief Doorkeeper for the Indiana House of Representatives while the Legislators were in session.
Eddy was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin. He also served as a Councilman, a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Plan Commission for the City of Franklin. He was very active in the community, serving as Chair for the Johnson County Good Cheer Fund for thirty-seven years as Chairman and twenty years as a volunteer member.
He was one of the original organizers of the Johnson County Interchurch Food Pantry and served as a volunteer over forty years.
He served two terms as President of the Johnson Memorial Hospital Foundation Board and was a founding member of the Johnson County Development Corporation. Eddy received the Sagamore of the Wabash and also recognized as a Kentucky Colonel.
He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Franklin. Eddy was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity; Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 107, F & A M; Scottish Rite of Indianapolis; York Rite, Knights Templer; Murat Shrine and the Sojourners. He was also a member of the Johnson County Shrine Club; Franklin Elks No. 1818; and the Franklin American Legion Post No. 205 where he served on the Honor Guard.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha; son Stephen Alan (Sandy) Teets; Dr. Sheryl Denise (Michael) Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Deb Teets. Also surviving are grandchildren, Michelle (Matt) Steele, Christopher Teets, Jason Teets, Jessi (Ben) West, Kendra Johnson and April Johnson; step-grandchildren, Molly (Tom) Burton and Michelle (Kirk) Tucker and great-grandchild, Cal Scott West and step-great grandchildren, Kurtis Tucker, Jacob Bradford and Johnna (Justin) Fritch. He is also survived by three sisters, Pam (Rocky) DeVito, Sandy Holderbaum and Wanda (Gary) Hale.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; brothers, Delmar Lee Teets and Arthur Lee Teets, Jr. and Bobby Teets and loving son, Scott Douglas Teets.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, August 7, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. A private family burial will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Franklin American Legion Post No. 205.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Eddy to the Johnson County Good Cheer Fund, P.O. Box 237, Franklin, Indiana 46131 and/or to Franklin College, Franklin Fund (Scholarship for Students) at 101 Branigin Blvd., Franklin, Indiana 46131.
