Earle Evans Millican, Jr. (Moose), a sweet and gentle man, died peacefully at Brightmoor Hospice on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at the age of 90.
Mr. Millican, a lifelong resident of Griffin, Georgia, attended school in Griffin before graduating from Emory at Oxford and Emory University with a degree in journalism.
While attending Emory, he met Jane Wheeler from Vero Beach, Florida, and after a brief courtship, they married and moved to Colorado Springs where he served two years in the US Army.
Upon returning to Griffin, Mr. Millican joined his father at Millican oil Company then sold the company after some 30 years. Some may remember him for selling real estate for a number of years and for his newsletter, "Moods of the Moose."
Mr. Millican was active in the Griffin community. In 1965, he was elected the youngest president up to that time of the Griffin Rotary Club. He served on the board of the Salvation Army, was active with the Boy Scouts (all four of his sons became Eagle Scouts), was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church and served both as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
An avid athlete, he was a runner for many years, a golfer, and a member of the Griffin Country Club. As a patron of the Masters, he held Masters series badges for well offer 50 years.
After the death of his first wife Jane, he met and married Barbara Scott in 2016 and moved to her home in Williamson. He enjoyed walking in their large yard, relaxing on the front porch, and the companionship of their six pets, Maggie, Tina, Charlie, Sarah, Nougat, and Other. In their five years of marriage, the Millicans never spent a day or night apart.
Mr. Millican is survived by his wife, Barbara Scott Millican, his sister Eleanor Frye, his five children, Evans (Lisa), Susan, William, David (Lisa), John (Lisa), and five grandchildren, Jack, Sam, McKenzie, Evan, and Reagan, his niece, Peggy Bridgeforth, several nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved pets, Tina and Other.
Because of the Covid 19 Delta Variant, a private Memorial Service for the immediate family only will take place in the Bramblett Chapel at First Baptist Church of Griffin at a later date. Dr. William Hardee will officiate.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations in Mr. Millican's name to your favorite no-kill animal organization or to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
Mrs. Millican would like to publicly thank the wonderful Staff at Brightmoor Hospice (especially Tony and Ann) for their care, compassion, and sympathy at this most difficult time.
Haisten Funeral Home of Jackson is in charge of final arrangements.
