CWO Earl Thornton, Jr., born 18 Oct, 1918, Bentonville, Arkansas. Joined the Navy at 17. Died aboard the U.S.S. Bennington on 26 May 1954 while at sea due to a catapult fire and explosion. Left behind his wife, Alice, and 4 children.. Lloyd, age 14, Kathy, age 10, Michael age 5 and Earl who was born in December of 1954.
