LIMA - Earl C. Fisher passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 23, 2022. He died as he had lived, with fierce independence and determination.
Earl was born October 11, 1944, to Marion Ralph Fisher and Myrtle Burkholder Fisher, who preceded in death. He was raised in Ada, OH and graduated from Ada High School.
On January 22, 1966, he married his lifetime companion and childhood friend, Cheryl Sue LaViness, who preceded him in death in 2020. He lived 640 days after losing the only woman he ever loved, and he mourned her absence every moment of those 640 days. He will never have to wake up or go to sleep without her ever again.
Earl was self-effacing about any talents he may have had, but he excelled at woodworking, lovingly creating handcrafted toys, hope chests, and large pieces of furniture for his family. He enjoyed singing in praise to God, considering it a vital part of his worship.
He had many jobs over the years, from a childhood spent with his bare feet curled around the rungs of a ladder, picking fruit from neighbors' trees so his Mom could make pies; to the job he would ultimately retire from, being the supervisor of the City of Lima Water Distribution Department.
While he was very proud of every job he did, it was his Christian ministry as one of Jehovah's Witnesses of which he was most proud. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on January 27, 1974; and was privileged to serve as an elder of the Lima West congregation, and sensitively comforted others using God's word, the Bible.
He looked forward to living forever in paradise on this earth, as promised in the Bible at Psalm 37:29, where it reads, "The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it." He also cherished the words of Christ found at John 17:3, where Jesus said in prayer to God, "This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ."
Earl is survived by a brother, Donald (Norma) Fisher of Sebring, Florida; daughter Angela (Steven) Horn, of Lima; daughter Christina (Darrin) Martinez, of Thomaston, GA; son Mark (Marla) Fisher, of Mayfield Heights, OH; daughter Sarah (Anthony) Smith, of Spencerville; and daughter-in-heart Natalie Fisher of Tiffin, OH.
His 12 bereaved grandchildren are: Andrew (Megan) Horn, of London, OH; D. Riley (Melanie) Horn, of Ohio City, OH; Megan (Westley) Rose of Thomaston, GA; Hannah (Logan) Hale and, Miranda Fisher, all of Tiffin, OH; Zachary Fisher, Dillyn Fisher, Ryleigh Fisher, all of Mayfield Heights, OH; Sheena (Joe) Brown; Brittni Smith and Kendra Smith, both of Celina, OH; Taylor Smith of Celina, OH.
He left behind 10 great-grandchildren: Connor Carder, Mason Carder, Keagan Carder, Damian Brown, Kylo Brown, Emma Reinig, Wesley Reinig, Skyler Smith, Lilliana Finn and Mariah Finn.
He was preceded in death by three beloved siblings: Robert "Bob" Fisher, Claribel "Clairie" Elwood, and Margaret "Maggie" Bennett.
Earl will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews, and literally thousands of friends. His dogs, Pepé and Lulu are lost without him, as are his cats, Nugget, Domino and Ebony.
Earl will be remembered on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 703 West Bluelick Road, Lima, OH. The family will receive visitors in person and via Zoom from 10am-noon, and then a Bible-based funeral discourse will be given at 2pm by son-in-law Steven Horn.
