Mr. Earl Wayne Cantrell, age 87, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at a local nursing home.
Mr. Cantrell was born in Floyd County, GA, on June 30, 1938, son of the late Earl Cantrell and the late Dicie Walker Cantrell. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Imogene "Gene" Crump Cantrell, and by 3 siblings, Dora Anita Cantrell, Ruth Litton Carden, and Harold "Buddy" Cantrell. Mr. Cantrell was a graduate of Cave Spring High School and earned his bachelor's in business from the Massey Business School. He was a proud veteran of the Unites States Air Force. Mr. Cantrell was an accounting clerk at the Lindale Mill, Inland, and spent the last decade of his working career with the Curtis Packing Co. He was a long time member of Fellowship Baptist Church before transferring his membership to Mt. Alto Baptist Church.
Mr. Cantrell was a sports fanatic. It did not matter what sport it was, if it was on T.V. he was watching it. He was a Georgia Tech fan through and through and loved his Atlanta Braves. If it wasn't a sporting event (even watching reruns of games he had already seen) or Fox News, it wasn't on in Mr. Cantrell's house. He was a consummate family man and was all about his girls. Mr. Cantrell was his daughter's best friend, coach, and everything she needed him to be and carried that role along when his granddaughters were born. He had a sweet tooth that border lined unhealthy. Mr. Cantrell loved reading his Bible and not only talked about his faith, still wanting to witness to every resident in the nursing home, but also lived it out as a Godly man who had been transformed by the blood of Jesus. Today his faith has turned to sight and he is now rejoicing in the presence of his Lord and Savior for eternity.
Survivors include his daughter, Kelli Waters, Rome; 2 granddaughters, Rachel Stonecypher (Jacob), and Dicie Waters (Nash Williams); 1 great granddaughter, Sofia Stonecypher; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Friday, January 16, 2026, in the Gazebo at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Mr. Barry Henderson will officiate the service.
The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, is honored to serve the family of Mr. Earl Wayne Cantrell.
