E. Genevieve Patterson passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024 at the age of 97. Born in Swaziland to missionary parents in South Africa, Rev M.D. and Florence Christensen, she graduated from Wheaton College in Chicago, Illinois. There she met and married her husband of over 70 years, John M. Patterson and moved to Lexington, Kentucky where he was professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Kentucky. She was active in the University of Kentucky Women's Club and Bridge Club. She was an equal partner in the building and restoration of at least 6 airplanes over the years. Her real passion was rug hooking, which she taught privately and with Fayette County Adult Education. She was a long time member of Hunter Presbyterian Church in Lexington. She was especially proud of her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Patterson, her brothers, Eldis Christensen MD and Rev. Ralph Christensen, and a sister Virginia Carrell. She is survived by a son, John Miles Patterson II MD (Ann) of Frankfort, KY, and granddaughter Elaine Alexander MD (Andrew) of Lexington, KY, with great grandchildren Henry and Charlotte. Also survived by grandsons John Miles Patterson III (Kim) of Westchester Township, Ohio and Daniel Pollock Patterson (Victoria) of Lexington, Kentucky with great grandchildren Magnus and Freya. She will be buried with her husband at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
