Durk Imke Jager, 78, of Kiawah, SC, passed away at peace on Sunday, April 3, 2022, in the home he built with his wife, surrounded by family. A proud Friesian, Durk was born on April 30, 1943 in Haskerland, the Netherlands. He was the son of the late Oene Jager and Meintje Jager, and preceded in death by his brother Jolle.
He is survived by Ingrid Jager-Baart, his wife of 57 years, brother Jan-Hessel, two sons Maarten and Menno, their spouses Alessandra and Heather, many nieces and nephews as well as six grandchildren that were the love and pride of his life: Erik, Magnus, Rutger, Willem, Axel, and Saskia Jager. He reveled in being their "pake."
Durk loved Ingrid with whom he shared his life through all its adventures. They met in Arnhem, moved to Rotterdam and with stints in Cincinnati, Vienna and Kobe, ultimately made their home in the country he loved and admired, the United States of America.
Durk's insatiable curiosity guided him in his long business career with Procter and Gamble as well as in his zest for travel to the far corners of the world. Durk was energized by the many great colleagues he worked with as well as all the people and cultures he visited during his travels. Principled, honest and generous, Durk was concerned not with himself, but instead with all around him until his final days.
Farewell our dear husband, our papa, our pake: welterusten. May you rest in peace and be reunited with those who have preceded you. With all the love in the world, we miss you dearly already.
Ingrid
Maarten and Menno
Alessandra and Heather
Erik, Magnus, Rutger, Willem, Axel, and Saskia
