Sandown, NH: Duane J. Butts, 80, a resident of the Town of Sandown since 2005 and a former longtime resident of Pelham, died peacefully on December 8, 2020, at his home in Sandown, surrounded by his loving family.
Born, raised and educated in Utica, NY, son of the late Perry and Lorena (Wilbur) Butts, he graduated from St. Francis de-Sales High School, with the Class of 1958 where he was a diver on the varsity Swim Team. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served until 1962, and was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal. Mr. Butts attended Northeastern University in Boston and was first employed at Honeywell Corporation for ten years, and later was employed for thirty years at Raytheon until his retirement.
Mr. Butts was a member of Saint Anne's Parish of Hampstead, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector, and as a volunteer at the food pantry and was a member of the Men of Joseph. He was also a former member of the Lions Club of Pelham. He was an avid golfer and a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots. In his younger years, he coached Little League Baseball. He enjoyed traveling across Europe and China and spent several years living in Saudi Arabia for his work at Raytheon.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-six years, Carol A. (LaMore) Butts, his son and daughter-in-law, Christian P. and Charlene Butts of Plainville, MA, and a daughter and son-in-law, Michele R. and Jeffrey Pray of Brentwood, NH, and six grandchildren, Carissa, Callie, Cassie, Sarah, Matthew and Julianne. He was predeceased by his son Jason D. Butts on October 27, 2020.
A private family funeral service will be held at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St, Plaistow, NH. Burial, with Military Honors, will take place in the Spring at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH.
