MAYFIELD - Dr. Walter Gautier Mayfield, Sr. was: a cloud watcher, a gardener, Star Wars conspirator, intentional reader, duck hunter, full-time trivia dispenser, arrowhead finder, master storyteller, lemon fish harvester, random pie maker, multimedia artist, biscuit adventurer, music maker, part time mountain man, pumpkin hoaxer, outstanding ROTC recruit, horse whisperer, costume creator, sunscreen monster, leather worker, shark denier, failed winemaker, canine friend, AND a pharmacist AND a physician. He was born July 2,1945 in Auburn, Alabama to James and Dorothy Mayfield. He was the second of four boys including James Jr., Tom, and George. He grew up in Hapeville, GA but the majority of his youth was in Waveland, MS. He graduated from University of Southern Mississippi where he met Karen Jensen and the two later married in Slidell in 1968. They had two children, Walter Jr. and Yancey. He was a graduate of The School of Pharmacy at University of Mississippi and The College of Osteopathic Medicine at Kansas City University. He was Chief of Staff at Doctors Hospital in Tucker, GA and later opened his own family practice, Mountain Park Medical Center, in Lilburn, GA. He married Cathey Corley in 2001 and they resided in Lilburn GA. Walter passed away at Wellstar Tranquility at Cobb Hospital in Austell, GA on August 12th with his wife, Cathey, by his side. He is survived by his children: Walter Gautier Mayfield, Jr. and his wife, Karen, and Yancey Marie Mayfield and her husband, Paul Nance, of Philadelphia, PA; two grandchildren, Jensen and Anthony of Tupelo, MS; stepson, Michael Paul Roberts and his wife, Danielle, and their children Lydia and Pearly, all of Lilburn, GA; brother, Tom Mayfield; nephews, James Mayfield and Jason Mayfield; and niece, Lois Mayfield.
