Dr. Sylvia Parrish Maxson peacefully died on November 15, 2023 with her loving husband, Bobby of sixty (60) years holding her hand. Sylvia was a retired university professor of early childhood education at California State University - Long Beach.
Sylvia's philanthropy for helping others was one of the hallmarks of her life. Her love of books and children are why the Anacortes Public Library, Children's section is named the Dr. Sylvia Maxson Children's Library.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Maxson a former university president. She is also survived by her son, Dr. Todd Maxson (a pediatric surgeon), his wife Amy and their wonderful children, MaryAnne (Carson), Andrew and Jake; and, her daughter, Kimberly (Maxson) Rushton, Esq., husband Ric and their children Alexandra and J. Maxson; sister and brother in law, Deborah and Albert McWhorter.
A memorial service is planned for December 16, 2023, at 1:00pm Westminster Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Dr. Sylvia Maxson Children's Library in Anacortes, Washington.
