Dr. Susan Elizabeth Henry Taylor of Madison was born on April 2, 1951 and passed away suddenly on April 22, 2022 at her home.
In 1969, Dr. Taylor graduated from Indianola High school in Indianola, Mississippi. She then attended Millsaps College in Jackson and graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honors, Biology in 1973. In 1977, she earned her medical degree from the University Medical Center in Jackson. Following her medical training, she attended the University of Florida to certify in plastic & reconstructive surgery. In 1991, Dr. Taylor served for nearly 10 years at the VA Medical Center as Chief of Ambulatory Surgery. Susan discovered her ultimate passion in 2001 while working to help patients who struggle with chemical dependency at COPAC in Brandon, Mississippi. Through her desire for helping others and her commitment to learning, she became an Addictionologist in 2007 caring for patients in the Jackson area. After many years serving others through her various positions in the medical field, Dr. Taylor retired in 2019, after five years serving as Chief of Substance Use Services from Mississippi State Hospital, Whitfield, Mississippi. She was kind, caring and compassionate to patients and staff, and was an incredible asset to the MSH medical staff.
Dr. Taylor was a member of Wells United Methodist Church. She always enjoyed family gatherings, caring for her beloved cat, Chloe, and visiting with her neighbors.
Dr. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Neal and Carolyn Gibson Henry.
She is survived by her brother, James Robert (Bobby) Henry and sister-in-law, Nita Simpson Henry of Madison, nephews, Neal Simpson Henry of Raleigh, North Carolina and William Joseph Henry (Ashley) of Madison, Mississippi. Dr. Taylor is also survived by her great niece, Grace Henry of Raleigh, North Carolina, and great nephew, Hayes Henry of Madison.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, followed by 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Parkway Memorial Cemetery, Ridgeland.
With grateful hearts, in lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Wells United Methodist Church.
