Dr. Michael Francis York, 68, died peacefully on May 12, 2022 at his home in the Asbury Solomons Nursing Center. Michael was the second of five children, born to Charles York and Theresa (Fritz)York on January 29, 1954. Michael accomplished anything he put his mind to and shared his medical talents freely with those in need. He grew up in Bethesda, MD and attended DeChantal Elementary and Walter Johnson High School, where he was a Merit Scholar. After finishing the Honors Program at the University of Maryland in three years, he went to Duke University Medical School and then completed a residency in Family Medicine at East Carolina University. Michael then worked at a rural Appalachian hospital for two years before then becoming a solo Family Practitioner in Upper Marlboro, MD for 20 years, until he had a series of strokes due to Lupus Vasculitis. He and his wife, Valerie Etheridge, then moved to Asbury Nursing & Retirement Community in Solomons, MD, where he lived for the past 17 years. He is survived by his mother, Theresa York; siblings, Stephen (Sheila), Ileea, Kevin (Theresa) and Kathy (Bob Jordan); and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday June 10, 2022 at 4:00pm at Church of the Resurrection, 3175 Paulskirk Drive, Ellicott City, Maryland 21042.
