Dr. Larry Joe Moore, age 72, of Hanover, Indiana was born August 3, 1948 in Floyd County, Indiana. He graduated from New Albany High School in 1966 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Economics with honors and distinction at Indiana University in 1970. On June 14, 1970, he married Julie Ann (May) Morre. This happy union of 50 years was blessed with daughters, Heather, Megan and Haley. He then continued his education and received a Doctorate of Philosophy in Economics in 1985 from Indiana University. He began his career in education, teaching economics at Indiana University, then subsequently at Hanover College. After a brief time at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kentucky, he returned to the field of education as an adjunct professor at Ivy Tech State College-Madison and retired as their Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. Along the way, his love of teaching led him to additionally teach classes at Indiana University-Purdue University in Columbus, Richmond and Lawrenceburg. Joe had many areas of interest besides economics and education. Joe was constantly building items, including a shed addition he completed in 2019 as well as in the greenhouse where he enjoyed a variety of plants including his current pride, the pineapple plants he grew. Joe had an incredible way of refinishing antiques to a point no one knew they were touched. Besides woodworking, he had a love of cars, especially British cars, with his pride being his MGC. Along with this was his love for country and 1960s music, and Joe passed his love of music and cars to his kids and grandkids. Joe was always kind to animals, rescuing and releasing many baby birds and rabbits throughout the years and loving the dogs his daughters brought home. But above all else, Joe loved spending time with friends and family talking about anything that came to mind and making sure enough jokes were inserted to make everyone laugh and smile. Dr. Moore died on Monday, October 12, 2020, at 10:38 p.m. at the Hosparus Inpatient Unit of Norton Pavillion in Louisville, Kentucky with his loving wife at his side.
