DR. JOHN C. HANSON, DR. JOHN C. HANSON, age 58, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022, while enjoying one of his many hobbies in the great outdoors.
John was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 16, 1964, to Carlton and Ann Hanson. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1982 where he was a standout athlete and captain of the football team both his junior and senior year. Growing up, he enjoyed learning how things worked by taking them apart. A true engineer at heart, he attended The Ohio State University to study mechanical engineering ultimately earning his degree from Fenn College of Engineering at Cleveland State University. He worked as a field engineer for General Electric for several years until he spent a day at work with his wife, Michelle, a dental hygienist, where he found his true calling: orthodontics. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at University of Illinois at Chicago and Certificate of Orthodontics at University of Rochester Eastman Institute of Oral Health. He practiced at Chermak and Hanson Orthodontics in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for 19 years.
During his time at Ohio State, he met the love of his life, Michelle. They were happily married on June 16, 1990. Throughout 32 wonderful years of marriage, they had five children, Ben, Katy, Annie, Blake, and JT. John was a devoted husband and father. Dedicating his life to his family, he instilled his Catholic faith and strong values into each of his loved ones.
The outdoors provided adventure for John throughout his entire life. In the beginning, John and his brother, Chip, spent countless hours with their father fly fishing, hunting, and exploring God's creation: the great outdoors. He shared this love with a family of his own by leading them on Sunday hikes, camping in local state parks, fly fishing and hunting with his sons, and boating at Smith Mountain Lake.
Fall, his favorite season, always brought John another year of Ohio State football. For him, this meant many spirited family gatherings and another opportunity to make his famous chicken wings. He was a man of many talents who never shied away from a challenge. A student of his workshop, he never met a problem he couldn't fix. He experimented with potato cannons, giant gumball machines, middle school science projects, and his latest endeavors included building furniture for his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton E. and Ann D. Hanson of Fairview Park, OH.
John is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Hanson; children, Benjamin, 26, Kathryn, 25, Anna, 23, Blake, 19, and John Thomas, 16; brother, Chip Hanson (Lisa) of Marietta, GA; parents-in-law, Lee and Jean Hickman of Newark, OH; and brothers in-law, Tom Hickman of Cary, NC, and Chad Hickman (Jen) of Charlotte, NC, along with a number of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
