Dr. Joe B. Butler, 93, a lifelong resident of Crothersville, IN, passed away from this earthly life to eternal life at 9:04 AM on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at his home with his family by his side. Dr. Joe was born on Friday, September 9, 1927, in Crothersville, IN. He is the son of Gordon E. Butler and Amy (Kingsbury) Butler. Dr. Joe was a 1945 Crothersville High School graduate. He started his college years at Purdue University studying Pharmacy, then a year later was called to the United States Army serving as a clerk. When he returned to Purdue University, he changed his major to Pre-med and graduated in 1950. In 1954 he graduated from I.U. Medical School. In 1955, he started his General Practice Medical Office in Crothersville. During his medical practice, Dr. Joe delivered over 3000 babies. He loved his work and helping others. His passion would not allow him to retire. He retired not just once but three times. Finally in 1999 and much to many of his patients regrets, Dr. Joe B. Butler officially retired ended his practice. On July 10, 1955, at the Crothersville United Methodist Church, Dr. Joe married Caroline (Lacey) Butler who survives in Crothersville, IN. Dr. Joe was a lifelong member of Crothersville United Methodist Church where he held several church positions. He was the church organist for 45 years and a Sunday school teacher for over 35 years. He was a devoted Gideon and served as an ambassador for Gideons International. Dr. Joe also served as the Chief of Staff for Schneck Medical Center early in his career. He loved to make kites and was asked by Disney to display his extraordinary talent at Walt Disney World. His kite was proudly displayed there. Dr. Joe was an adventurist throughout his life. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, and flying in his airplane. He obtained his pilot's license in 1973. In his later years, he enjoyed working in his rose gardens and his large vegetable garden. Survivors include his loving wife of almost 66 years, Caroline (Lacey) Butler of Crothersville, 6 children, Rick (Yvie) Butler of Seymour, IN, Betsy (Andy) Petty of Crothersville, IN, Randy (Donna) Butler of Seymour, IN, Dr. Dan (Erin) Butler of Middletown, OH, Kim (Kelly) Hunter of Lexington, KY, and Tim (Jeong-Hee) Daegu, South Korea, 17 grandchildren, Ashlee Butler, Aimee (Mitch) England, Ben Bowman, Marc Bowman, Lacey (Matt) Howard, Evan Petty, Cory (Annabelle) Butler, Cameron (Anna) Butler, Joe Butler, Chris Butler, Cyia Butler, Dalton Butler, Sarah Butler, Jacob Hunter, Lauren Hunter, Hannah Butler and Grace Butler, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Gordon K. and Wanda Butler. Pastors Brynen Chitwood and Landon Sexton will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 30, 2021, with burial to follow at Crothersville Cemetery. Funeral services will be live-streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday and after 10:00 AM on Friday all at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville.
