Dr. Irene Baggott Mossburg, 84, passed away peacefully on June 9th, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on September 7th, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY to Helen and William Baggott. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Irene was a remarkable individual whose kindness, compassion, and infectious personality touched the lives of everyone around her. She dedicated her life to being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, and educator leaving an indelible impact on each person fortunate enough to cross her path. From an early age, Irene displayed an unwavering commitment to learning and development. After graduating with a Doctor of Education (EdD) from West Virginia University, she pursued a career as a professor and excelled in West Virginia Department of Education's Regional Education Service Agency. She was dedicated to public service and developing the next generation of children in the state of West Virginia. Her expertise earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues. While she achieved professional success, Irene's true joy in life came from her role as a nurturing and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She poured boundless love and support into her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's lives, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams and offering guidance along the way. Her unwavering belief in their abilities will continue to inspire. In her spare time, Irene enjoyed family beach vacations and reunions, WVU football and basketball, daily crossword puzzles, and quality time with her friends and loved ones. She embraced each moment with enthusiasm and a zest for life. Her radiant smile and infectious laughter brightened every room she entered. Irene leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. She will be deeply missed by her beloved Friends and Family. She is survived by her loving siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Siblings: William "Bill" Baggott and Glenda, Newark, DE and Alice Baggott Collins, Morgantown. Children: Stephanie Mossburg Hewitt and husband Richard "Rick", New Matamoras, OH, Susan Mossburg Garner, Clarksburg and William Lee Mossburg Jr, Belpre, OH. Grandchildren: Madonna, Chris and Thais, Michelle and Andy, Codie and Josh, Dustin and Desiree, Brandy, Ryan, and Anthony.
Great Grandchildren: Skylar, Christa, Anthony, Ezra, Ivan, Gabrielle, Madeleine, Cash, Crew, Carter, Lila, and Livia.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all those who have offered support, condolences, and prayers during this difficult time. Your kindness and thoughtfulness have provided great comfort. Currently, the family is organizing a future memorial service to celebrate the life of Irene. Details will be communicated to Friends and family to attend and pay their respects at a later date.
