Dr. Frank Fitzwilliam Hyatt, 91, of Southern Pines, NC, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025.
Born on March 31, 1934, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Frank lived a life defined by service, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
A graduate of LSU Medical School, Dr. Hyatt devoted over six decades to medicine?practicing family and emergency medicine and later focusing on treating patients suffering from opioid addiction. His career took him from California to South Carolina and Virginia, always guided by a deep sense of purpose. He retired at the age of 85, leaving a legacy of care and healing.
Prior to his medical career, Frank served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a translator.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Olga Hyatt; his children Frank Hyatt, Greg Hyatt, Chris Hyatt, and Catherine Hyatt; his grandchildren Stella, Zach, Isabella, and William; and his sister, Mary Fetter.
In retirement, Frank made his home in Southern Pines, where he found joy in church life, reading, and the company of friends. Throughout his life, he was known for his intelligence, humility, and tireless dedication to others. His work in opioid addiction treatment reflected a profound compassion for those in need and a lifelong belief in second chances.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 9:00 am on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 160 E. Vermont Ave. Southern Pines. Burial to follow at the St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery, 2922 Camp Easter Rd. Southern Pines.
