Douglas James Simmons, 74, passed away Friday, July 24, 2020, at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born September 21, 1945, in Clinton, Iowa to the late Arthur Hollis and Muriel Helen (Guenther) Simmons.
Doug was a US Marine Corps Veteran serving in Vietnam where he flew Cobra Gunship Helicopters. Doug was a self-employed lobbyist for numerous clients. He was past-president of the American Epilepsy Society and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Cheri Lynn Simmons; son, Douglas James Simmons, Jr. (Stephanie); daughter, Stacee Lynn George (Daniel); son, Sean William Simmons (Kristy); stepson, Brent Marklin (Donna); stepson Scott Marklin; grandchildren, Rylie, Sawyer, Mackenzee, Nathan, Benjamin, Matthew, John, Nicholas, Kylie, Nikki, Nathan, and John; brother, Ed Simmons (Rhonda); sister, Darlene Brown (Bob); brother, Jim Shrader (Laura); and sister, Sheryl O'Neal Harvey (Jim); and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Simmons will be cremated with no services at Alexander East Chapel.
