Douglas Floyd Oosting, 82, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Douglas Floyd Oosting, lovingly known as Doug, was born on August 5, 1943, in Indian River, Michigan. A proud Northern Michigan native, Doug carried his roots with him throughout his life, shaped by the values of hard work, family, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Doug graduated from Indian River High School in 1961. He later entered the National Guard in 1964, serving his country faithfully until 1970. Following his military service, Doug dedicated himself to his trade with Procter & Gamble, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 1998. His strong work ethic and reliability defined his professional life and earned the respect of those who worked alongside him.
Doug was married to Diana Marie Oosting for over 30 years, and together they raised their beloved daughters in Cheboygan, Michigan. In 1990, the family relocated to Greenville, North Carolina, where Doug would continue to build a life centered around family, tradition, and togetherness.
He was a devoted father and proud grandfather. Doug is survived by his daughters: Shelle Goodwin and her husband Kevin, and their children Kyle and Mason; Amanda Pongpairoj and her late husband Shane, and her children Kaedyn and Kollin; and Kaysi Kallweit and her husband Dan, and their children Kane and Kohen. Nothing brought Doug greater joy than spending time with his grandsons?whether it was watching sports, cheering from the sidelines, or sharing stories that made everyone laugh.
An outdoorsman at heart, Doug loved hunting and fishing and was always eager to share tales from his many adventures. Having spent years in Spokane, Washington, he cherished snowy winters, yet he equally enjoyed warm summers on the North Carolina coast surrounded by family.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, mother, and two brothers.
His life was marked by loyalty, love for family, and a big personality that left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Doug will be remembered for his stories, his smile when surrounded by loved ones, and the unwavering pride he had for his family. His legacy lives on through the generations he so deeply loved.
A memorial service will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 7, at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Service League of Greenville Hospice House, whose compassionate staff provided Doug with extraordinary comfort and kindness during his final days, as well as offering unwavering support to his family.
