Douglas Wayne Meyer, 94, of La Crescent, MN, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Gundersen Health System La Crosse.
He was born on May 30, 1929, in Spring Grove, MN, to Edwin and Gladys (Burmeister) Meyer. The family resided in Caledonia, MN, at that time, but purchased a farm in Thompson Valley near Hokah, MN, where Doug grew up.
Doug loved the land and farmed there until his retirement to La Crescent, MN, in 1992. On August 6th, 1955, he married Mary Ginsky of La Crosse, WI. They had five children, Jane, Amy, Douglas Jr., Daniel, and Charles. Douglas was a clerk for Union Township. He belonged to the Hokah Co-Op Board of Directors, Minnesota Farmers Union, Extension Committee, and was an elected Soil Conservation Supervisor for 46 years. He was a loyal Vikings fan and loved to play cards.
Douglas is survived by his two daughters: Jane (Dudley) Voves of La Crescent, MN, and Amy Meyer of La Crosse, WI; his three sons: Douglas Jr. (Stephanie) of Friendswood, TX, Daniel of Winona, MN, and Charles of Cochrane, WI. Six beloved grandchildren: Ryan, Reece and Madison Meyer, Gregory Voves, Erika and Steven Meyer, and nieces and nephews.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary, his two sisters and their husbands, Dorothy and Oren Pengra, Barbara and Joe Shockley, and his two brothers and their wives, Gordon and Carolyn Meyer, and Howard and Mary Meyer.
Funeral services were held at 11a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Prince Of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent. Pastor Kary Jonas officiated. Burial followed in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hokah. Friends called on the family Friday morning at the church from 10a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
