On August 1, 2024 Douglas Eugene Hutto, 75, of Gastonia, North Carolina rejoined his heavenly family. Doug was born in Andalusia, Alabama on August 26, 1948 to James Perry Hutto and Mary Estelle Powell Hutto.
As a master designer and educator for Sebastian Professional, Doug touched the lives of many. He was an independent soul, working for himself at Doug Hutto Hair Design and he also contributed his 50+ years of experience as a master stylist to Body Balance Day Spa. His artistry wasn't limited to hair: he played piano beautifully and his sketches were as full of life as he was. Doug, known affectionately as "Saba" to his family, was a loyal patron of St. Peters Episcopal church, cherished grandfather, & dedicated husband. He loved fully, making lifelong friends and inspiring his loved ones with his faith, courage and strength.
Doug has been reunited in heaven with his grandmother "Momma Greathouse", his aunts Clara Powell, Margaret Bass, Ruth Nations and Alice Waters; mother Estelle Wall and sisters Tina Foster and Judy Havard.
He is survived by his husband of 44 years, Steve Thomas and children: Kristen Hutto Teeters and her husband Mike, Amy Thomas Paradice and her husband Jessie, and son Eric Steven Thomas. Grandchildren: Kristen and Derek Jordan, Kyle and Cil Hembree, Addison and Nate Wilcox, Aiden and Mia Thomas, Thompson & Hannah Eastman, Nolan Eastman and Emily Thomas. Great grandchildren: Reagan, Alex and Thomas Jordan, Collins Eastman, Maisen Wilcox and Oaklee Thomas. Niece, Shasta Sprinkle. Lifelong friend: Miranda Kaplan. Special pets Sophie and Ralph.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am, Monday, August 12th at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Charlotte, NC. Reception immediately following the service.
