Douglas Stevens Button passed away at home on January 13, 2022 in Maryville, TN at the age of 77 years old. He was the husband of Barbara Jean Button and they shared 13 years of marriage.
Born in Chicago, Illinois he was the son of long time Sears Roebuck and Co marketing executive, James W Button and wife Lurena Stubbs Button. He was a graduate of New Trier high school, Parsons College and had many fascinating careers including Whirlpool Corporation, police officer, business owner, bladesmith and jack of all trades.
Doug was a Grand Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in Slidell, Louisiana, member of Beech Grove Baptist church and Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America. He was known to volunteer his time to help young men achieve the Eagle Scout award. Doug had a deep sense of protection over his family, friends, and animals. He loved crafting handmade jewelry and enjoyed the art of bladesmithing with his "signature button" placed in many of his knives. Doug was an avid outdoorsman and spent many weekends camping.
He is survived by wife, Barbara Jean Button; children, Heather Ashe and spouse Doug, Stephanie Gardner and spouse Byron, Tony Button and spouse Tanya, Wendy Allen and spouse Curtis,
Mary Glass and spouse Nicholas, Brandy Lawson and spouse Joe, Billie Nelson, and Brook Nelson; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Katherine Button-Bell and spouse Jim Nyquist, and many nieces and nephews. Doug is preceded by his loving parents, James and Lurena Button and brother, James Button Jr.
A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held at Bear Foot cabin, 1916 Buds Ridge Way, in Sevierville, on Saturday, January 29, 2022, from 2:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. Family and friends are all invited to join.
