DorothyRose "Primm" Wright, 86, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021, at home, surrounded by family. A loving and devoted Navy wife, mother, and friend to so many. Mrs. Wright was the thread that kept all of the extended family and friends connected throughout the years, never forgetting and always commemorating birthdays, anniversaries, and any special occasion with a card or phone call.
Mrs. Wright was born in Sunflower County in the Mississippi Delta as the only child of Lillian (Sis) Cantrall and William "Roe" Primm. Mrs. Wright graduated from Indianola High School, Indianola, Mississippi and then graduated from MSCW (Mississippi University for Women) in Columbus, Mississippi with a Bachelor of Library Science degree.
Mrs. Wright began her career as a school Librarian at Drew High School in Drew, Mississippi, then later at Brownsville Jr. High School and Blount Jr. High School in Pensacola, Florida. Mrs. Wright went on to become the District Librarian for Central Union District, NAS Lemoore, California and Library Clerk, NAS Cecil Field, Florida. Mrs. Wright also held the position of receptionist for Family Service Center, NAS Cecil Field and NAS Jacksonville, Florida in later years.
In Pensacola, Florida she met and married her husband, Frederick W. Wright III, a Navy pilot. Mrs. Wright, with her two small children, accompanied her husband to nine different military bases, crisscrossing America before finally returning to Jacksonville at NAS Cecil Field in 1970.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Wright gave of her time, talent, and treasure generously as a member of MSCW Alumni, Gold Star Wives, National League of POW/MIA Families, Military Officers Association of America, USO, Federated Republican Women of Clay County Florida and the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour. Mrs. Wright has been recognized for her countless hours of service to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and in recent years contributed significantly, providing historical information and artifacts to the National POW/MIA Memorial & Museum located at Cecil Field. Mrs. Wright, a Navy wife to the very end, always demanded the fullest possible accounting for our service men and women.
Mrs. Wright is preceded in death by her husband, Frederick W. Wright, III, CDR USN (MIA/KIA 1972 - Vietnam, remains returned 1990). She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Wright (Barry) Covington; son, Frederick Williston Wright, IV; extended family including cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The family suggests memorial gifts be sent to National POW/MIA Memorial & Museum,
6112 POW-MIA Memorial Pkwy, Jacksonville, FL 32221 or powmiamemorial.org. Gifts should be designated "In the memory of Primm Wright".
Because of COVID, services will be held at a later date at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, Jacksonville, FL with graveside services held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
