Dorothy Tigertt Blackwood died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019. She was born to Carl and Anna Jane Tigertt in 1925.
A life-long resident of south Dallas county, she graduated as valedictorian from Wilmer-Hutchins high school at the age of sixteen. She received an undergraduate degree from Mary Hardin-Baylor. After getting a Master's in Library Science from TWU, she was instrumental in setting up the elementary school libraries in Lancaster ISD and enjoyed her work as a children's librarian for many years.
Her husband, R.E. Blackwood and son Tom preceeded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Mimi (Mark) Smith, granddaughters Jessica Abbondanzio (Matt), and Maddrey Blackwood, daughter-in-law Carol Farabee Blackwood, as well as twin great-grandsons, Jackson and Leo.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, Oct. 5, at 2 pm.
