Dorothy Elizabeth Shurtleff, 95 formerly of Colorado City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June, 6, 2022 after her stay at Sagecrest Alzheimer's Care Center in San Angelo Texas.
She was born in Colorado City on February 8, 1927 to Willie and Essie Tidwell Nowell.
Dorothy spent most of her life in the Colorado City area. After graduating high school and attending some college she married the love of her life Darrell Shurtleff on February 22, 1947, together they raised their 2 boys, and showed them lots of love. Throughout life Dorothy worked doing secretarial work, first for the family welding shop, then for the Colorado City Chamber of Commerce, then for State Representative Rob Junell. Dorothy was a very sweet Christian woman who loved her husband, her children, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart. Some would call her a social butterfly, which made it easy for her to find instant friends everywhere she went. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, gardening, volunteering, and attempting to cook new things that she hadn't tried to cook before. She will be fondly remembered by those who loved her.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Clay Shurtleff and wife Mandy of San Angelo and Lee Shurtleff and wife Barbara of Plano, by grandchildren Stewart Shurtleff and wife Ashley of Plano, Haley Shurtleff of San Angelo, and Hillary Shurtleff of Orlando Fl., as well as great-grandchildren William Shurtleff, Hayes Shurtleff, and Stella Shurtleff. Also surviving is a brother Jerry Nowell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and a sister Mary Barnett and husband Don of St. Luis Missouri, and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Darrell Shurtleff, and by siblings, C.B. Nowell, Larry Nowell, Clifton Nowell, Jim Nowell, Herschel Nowell, Donald Nowell, Wayne Nowell, and Shirley Alexander.
A graveside service for Dorothy was held on June 9, 2022 in the Colorado City Cemetery with Doctor Jerry Shields officiating.
