Dorothy E. "Dottie" Powell, 103, formerly of Susquehanna Township and Mechanicsburg, and more recently of McAlisterville, passed away on Saturday December 19, 2020 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin.
Born June 24, 1917, in Lower Paxton Township, she was a daughter of the late Robert N. and Edythe M. (Wadsworth) Eslinger. Dottie had been united in marriage with Harry L. Powell, prior to his passing in 1970.
A graduate of William Penn High School, she had worked as an Administrative Assistant at the American Heart Association for nearly 30 years until her retirement in 1982. Dottie was a member of the Paxton United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, where she sang in the choir and performed with the Paxton Trio. Music was always an important part of her life. Dottie was the Pianist and Choir Director at both Pheasant Hills of Susquehanna Township and Bethany Towers in Mechanicsburg - a role she filled until the age of 90. She enjoyed word and number puzzles, reading about Amish life and knitting - many of the items she made by hand, she shared from her heart as gifts to her family and friends.
Dottie is survived by her daughter, Beverly J. (Ray) Oberlin, of McAlisterville and sons, Robert L. (Sandra) Powell and John H. (Teresa) Powell, all of Harrisburg. She is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Eslinger and a half sister, Esther Zarker.
Arrangements and interment in Dillsburg Cemetery are private at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions being made to Paxton United Methodist Church, 3550 North Progress Avenue, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
