Dorothy (Dot) Myers age 94, of Calhoun, Georgia departed this life Monday, August 22, 2022 at her home. She was born June 17, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Louis and Sylvia Koupal Skokan. She was also preceded in death by husband John Benton Myers, an infant son, and sister, Vivian Skokan Otis. As a first-generation American daughter of Czech immigrants, Dot graduated from high school and went to work at Western Electric in Chicago where she became an executive secretary. There, as secretary of the Western Electric Chorus, she met club president, John Myers, who became the love of her life. After a short courtship, they married in 1952 and honeymooned "out west." Over their 53 years of marriage, they traveled extensively all over the United States, Canada, and much of Europe. They also continued making music together performing duets and in various bands for parties, nursing home residents, and church functions. After being transferred to Atlanta with their young family in 1962, Dot worked as a homemaker who loved to cook, do crafts, and create a home where friends and the neighborhood kids wanted to gather. Always willing to help with her children's activities she served as Brownie troop leader and Little League booster. Together, she and John served as hockey team parents and music department booster club co-presidents. Dot and John attended every game and performance, and her children are so thankful for all their support and dedication to their family through the years. The foundation of Dot and John's life together was their faith in God and being active in church. As a member of Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, Dot participated in the Chancel Choir, Sunday School, and numerous committees and organizations, including leading the Women's Society of Christian Service (WSCS) as president. After John retired from Western Electric, they moved to Carrollton, Georgia and joined Concord United Methodist Church in the Hickory Level Community. There, Dot, again became an active member, joining the choir, helping with all the activities, and serving as church secretary. In 1995 she experienced a Walk to Emmaus, one of the highlights of her life as a Christian. In 2008, she moved to Calhoun, Georgia with her daughter where they joined Calhoun First United Methodist Church. There, she regularly attended services, supported many projects, and participated in activities as she was able. Dot is survived by her children, Donna Jean Myers of Calhoun, Georgia; son, James Tracy Myers and daughter-in-law, Cheryl of Jacksonville, Florida; brother, James Robert Skokan and sister-in-law, Nancy of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
