Dorothy Rhodes Mayer , 90 Jun 29, 1931 - Oct 21, 2021 Dorothy Rhodes Mayer , 90, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Thursday, October 21, 2021, at home. Born Friday, June 29, 1931 in Altoona, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clair Rhodes and the late Edith (Rummel) Rhodes. She graduated from Hagerstown Community College in 1973. She then graduated from John Hopkins University, receiving her BME and then received her MBA from Frostburg College. She retired from Hagerstown Community College in 2007 after 33 years of service, including many years of teaching mathematics science and engineering. She was a member of Calvary Grace Brethren Church and was a charter member of Altoona Bible Church. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Ruth Upton of Hagerstown, MD; two sons, James Norman Mayer and wife, Kristin of Manheim, PA and Joel Nelson Mayer and wife, Denise of Kansas City, MO; brother, Gerald Rhodes of Altoona, PA; sister, Linda Kennedy Rhodes of Phillipsburg, PA; seven grandchildren, Richard Upton, Lindsay Spreadbury, Melody Mayer, Nicole Reitz, Christopher Mayer, Nathaniel Mayer, Benjamin Mayer; great-grandchildren, Brittany and Brooke Upton, Oliver, Karen, Tedrick, Samuel, and Ephraim Reitz, Declyn, Adylena and Rowan Mayer; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Norman Mayer; son in law, Ronald W. Upton; and great-grandson, Zane Liam Mayer. Services will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at 11:00 am, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Douglas A. Courter officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, October 27, 2021, 10:00 am - 11:00 am. Private inurnment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hagerstown Community College Faculty Scholarship Fund, 11400 Robinwood Drive Hagerstown, MD 21742.
