Dorothy Marie (Nance) Lewis, 90, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield, Indiana. She was born to Henry and Stella (Jackson) Nance on May 12, 1931 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Dorothy was a proud, hardworking and loving military wife and mother who was always happy to share stories about her life and still growing family. She enjoyed sewing and needlework, tending to her plants and flowers, and when she was able, she loved to travel, square dance and bowl, for which she won several trophies. She was a member of the Lawrence Chapter #384 of the Eastern Star. She loved her church, The Assembly on South Post Road and found strength in fellowship, prayer and the word of God.
She was married to the love of her life, Capt. Richard M. Lewis, Sr, for more than 65 years and together they raised 5 children, all of whom survive her. Carl Lewis (Cheryl) of Sand Springs, OK, Richard Lewis, Jr. (Becky) of Clay City, IN, Gail Grimes (Richard) of Greenfield, IN, David Lewis of Carrollton, GA, Thomas Lewis, Sr. (Kim) of Indianapolis. Also surviving her are 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, great granddaughter: Breanna Nicole Brown, and siblings: Marie, Ward, Bob, Roy, Orville and Everett Nance.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229. Visitation will be from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. with interment at the cemetery following the service.
