Dorothy Alice Slater Keister passed away on December 29, 2020 at the age of 96, just shy of her 97th birthday. She was born in Seattle on January 15, 1924 to George and Phoebe Hashu. She graduated from Everett High School in 1942. She worked in accounting at The Herald where she retired in 1983. Her biggest joy was her family. She loved playing pinochle in her "club" and was still playing until early 2020. She faithfully attended water aerobics class at the Marysville Y until her early 90's. She enjoyed a good book, knitting, and she was a great cook. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching the Mariners and Seahawks but she was a Husky through and through. She had season tickets for many years and even attended a couple Rose Bowl games with her dear friend Louise. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother Robert. Dorothy is survived by her three children, Dale Slater (Laurie), Mary Custer (Richard) and Curtis Slater (Bonnie), along with eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, five nieces and one nephew. The family would like to thank April House and Providence Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County or a charity of your choice. You can cry because she is gone, or you can smile because she lived.
