Dr. Dorothy Jean Akin Jens passed away at her home at Brandon Wilde, Evans, Georgia on December 29, 2020. Dr. Jens, born February 28, 1923 in Evanston, Illinois to Howard James Akin and Dorothy Johanna Smart Akin. She attended Evanston Schools, Beloit College and received degrees from Northwestern University, Purdue University and Wayne State University. Dorothy married Wayne Henry Jens on January 26, 1946. They lived in Grosse Pointe Park and Presque Isle, Michigan before retiring to Lake Keowee, SC and then Brandon Wilde. Dorothy and Wayne celebrated their 71st anniversary prior to Wayne's death in January 2018.
Dorothy was a licensed psychologist in the State of Michigan and practiced as a school psychologist in St. Clair Shores. She spent her career helping children and received awards from both the National and Michigan Association for Children with Learning Disabilities.
The couple had four children: Dr. Kathryn Jens of Denver, CO; Mrs. Martha Bale (Dr. James F.) of Salt Lake City, UT; Mrs. Emily (Walker) Doubler (Jerry) of Plymouth, MI and Andrew Akin Jens (Amber) of Herndon, VA. Dorothy had ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery to reunite with her husband. Memorial gifts can be made to the Grand Lake Chapel or Learning Disabilities Association of Michigan. Full Obituary at https://www.plattsfuneralhome.com/
