Dorothy “Dot” M. Hersey, 88, passed away too soon on June 1, 2022, at her home. Her final precious days were surrounded by her loving family who will miss her terribly. Born in Northampton, MA on September 22, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Sadie (Soja) Charron.Extraordinarily talented, her Meme taught her how to sew at a young age and began honing her craft as a seamstress by making clothes for herself and her sisters. She continued sewing through the years and made everything from wedding dresses and bridal gowns to Mutant Ninja Turtle Halloween costumes. Not stopping at clothing and alterations, she also created window treatments, slip covers for couches, and cushions for outdoor furniture. Basically, anything you asked her for she happily took on the challenge. She also helped renovate several houses by painting interior rooms. We are lucky to be surrounded by her work.If being good at all that wasn’t enough, she was also a great cook and baker, making our favorites like French meat pie, fish fries and key lime pie for the holidays. She kept her mind sharp by reading 1-2 books a week, had a 1,000-piece puzzle going on her kitchen table at all times and played Words with Friends daily. One of Tiger Woods' biggest fans, she was excited to have seen him play at the 95th PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club. She never said no to a lobster roll, or any seafood for that matter even though she might get Gout, loved to watch the snowfall in her chair by the window in Vermont, taking trips to visit family in New York and Florida, driving around to see Christmas lights and sitting by a roaring fire.Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Robert F. Hersey, who passed away January 20, 2017, and her sisters Janice Sullivan and Elaine Bertrand. To cherish her memory, she leaves her sons, Daniel J. Hersey and his wife Trudy of Greenacres, FL, Michael E. Hersey and his wife Cynthia of Southwick, and Thomas R. Hersey of Lafayette, GA; two daughters, Kathleen Harper and her husband Mark of Webster, NY, and Maureen Walachy and her husband Mark of West Springfield; 8 grandchildren, Heather, Cori, Matthew and his wife Jessica, Michael, Chelsea and her fiancée Adriano, Zachary, Ian, and Connor; and her 7 great-grandchildren, Connor, Jaelyn, Gianna, Benjamin, Liam, Henry and Charlotte.Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, June 10, 2022 from 11 AM – 1 PM at Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 985 Main Street, Agawam, MA.
