Dorothy Janice Burns passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022 in Llano, Texas at the age of 75. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Her journey on earth started when she was born in Weslaco, Texas to Paul Gilliam and Lucille (Shell) on July 11, 1946. Janice spent her childhood in Progreso, Texas. She played basketball and volleyball at Weslaco High School. Janice married Charlie Burns on July 9, 1965, and they enjoyed 56 years together. She was an employee, manager and officer for several banks in the Rio Grande Valley, ultimately retiring from Wells Fargo after many years of recognized service. Janice was a resident of Llano for 8 years after leaving Kerrville, Texas where she and Charlie originally retired to. Janice was able to achieve her lifelong dream of seeing all of Texas from an RV after joining the Lonestar Scouts RV Club, during which time she and Charlie made life-long friends.
Those who know Janice best know that she was skilled at all forms of needlework including quilting, crocheting, and cross-stitch. She always had some project that she was working on and often gifted her loved ones pieces she made. One of our favorite memories was taking a family picture at Christmas in the crocheted hats we all received. We will all forever cherish those homemade gifts.
Dorothy is preceded by her parents, Paul Gilliam and Lucille (Shell); and brother, Eugene (Gene) Gilliam.
She is survived by her sons, Kevin Burns and wife Christine, of Frisco, Texas; and Todd Burns and wife Becky, of Houston, Texas; grandsons, Zachary and Logan Burns; brother, Robert Gilliam, of Arroyo City, Texas; and sister, Nancy (Carolyn) LaDuke of Weslaco, Texas.
The family will hold a memorial service for Janice at a later date.
