Dorothy Lester Faseler of San Marcos, loving mother and grandmother, died at age 86 on August 5, 2022. She was born on December 13, 1935, to Jewel and Owen Lester of Moore, Texas. She attended Moore and Pearsall schools. Upon graduating from high school in 1954, she married her sweetheart, John Faseler, with whom she enjoyed a loving marriage for 65 years.
While newlyweds, Dorothy and John lived in married student housing at Southwest Texas State Teachers College (Texas State University), where they made lifelong friends. Following John's graduation from college, the couple remained in San Marcos, where they raised their two daughters, Diana and Lisa. Dorothy and John were members of First United Methodist Church.
In addition to being a loving and devoted mother, Dorothy enjoyed a career in San Marcos CISD. For many years she was school secretary at Crockett Elementary School. While at Crockett, she was a welcome face to the many students who passed through the school. She always enjoyed seeing former students around the community. She also held other positions with the school district before retiring in the early 1990s.
After retirement, Dorothy remained active, assisting John in their commercial beekeeping operation, a successful business with beginnings on her side of the family generations before. She was also active in the early years of her church's thrift shop, Twice Blessed Consignment. Another favorite activity of hers was league bowling with friends on Fridays at Sunset Bowling Lanes. She also cherished her many travels with John in North America and Europe.
Most of all, Dorothy loved gathering with family. She was a wonderful cook, preparing many special meals for these get-togethers. Her trove of recipes will be passed down and treasured.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; her parents, Jewel (Stone) and Owen Lester; in-laws Annie and John Faseler; her sister Jane Martin and husband Oliver; sister-in law Ruth (Faseler) Wilson and husband Lawrence; brother-in-law Elmer Faseler; brother-in-law Karl Faseler and wife Viola; and brother-in-law Johnny Graff.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Diana and Gary Elkins and Lisa and Stephen Gray; grandchildren Dana Breed and husband Brad, Lindsey Russey and husband Alex, Allie Ashley and husband Jacob, Drew Gray, and Reagan Gray; and three great grandchildren, Mack Breed, Eleanor Russey, and Johnny Ashley. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Dorothy Graff and Joanne Faseler, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The family is grateful to the staff of New Haven Assisted Living for their wonderful care and friendship during Dorothy's residency there. Memorials may be given to Yancey United Methodist Church or Yancey Cemetery Association.
