Dorothy "Dee" Dawn Ash was welcomed by the Lord on Thursday, April 28, 2022, in Longview, TX at the age of 80. She was born on Saturday, August 9, 1941 in Jefferson Co, Kentucky to the late George Andrew Mooney and Evalyn Grace Gerringer. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Philip "Phil" Gerringer and Edna Hazel Wright in Huntington, Indiana. She was also a resident in California and many cities in Texas, most recently, Winnsboro, under the loving and devoted care of her son Brett Peterson, and his wife Cathy. Dee was preceded in death by both of her parents and grandparents, her husband Edwin Clovis Ash Jr., her sons Christopher and Brian Peterson, her daughter Joni Peterson, and her grandsons Derek and Jacob Peterson. Left to cherish her memory is her son Brett and his wife Cathy, her grandchildren Brittny Torres, Courtny Michel, Tiffany Hagood, Jerediah Peterson, Amber McAvoy, Katie Adams, Zachary Barnett, Matthew Barnett, Jackson McKinney, Michelle "Nancy" Peterson, Shannon Monday, Tony Monday, Bobby Young, Erica Ash Carrier, Kayla Ash Sheffield, Jeremy Ash, Amanda Ash Delahoussaye, Amy Ash Perkins, Josh Ash, Chris Reid, Ashley Martin, Memphis Johnson, and her 28 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Dee's contagious laughter and jokes would light up a room and bring joy to all of those around her. She loved listening to the echoes of her grandchildren laughing and playing in the background, and would speak about those joyous memories for weeks after. One of her favorite sayings, and something she lived by was "life is short; eat dessert first!" She maintained a positive and jubilant outlook despite the many trials and obstacles in her life. Dee trusted in the Lord and her faith in Him kept her strong. She was devoted to her husband, Edwin "Ed" Ash for 41 years and their love for each other was unconditional and everlasting. In her final weeks, Dee was counting down the days to celebrate her late husband's birthday. It was that very day that she was taken home to celebrate Ed's birthday by his side. Dee will be laid to rest with her husband on May 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dallas-Ft Worth National Cemetery located at 2000 Mt. Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211. Family and friends will gather after the memorial to celebrate her life with memories and fellowship.
