Dorothy Danylin, 80, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully at Craneville Place in Dalton, MA on Thursday, August 25, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on June 17, 1942, the daughter of the late Edward and Anna Jack Dow, she graduated from Pittsfield High School with the class of 1960. In 1961, Dorothy graduated from Berkshire Business School, and later attended classes at Berkshire Community College.
Dorothy was employed by the Mass Highway Department, where she worked in the accounting and payroll department. It was there that she dedicated 23 years until her retirement in 2008. Prior to that, she worked at Hillcrest Hospital and the First Agricultural Bank.
Dorothy loved the Berkshires (where she spent the majority of her time), but also thoroughly enjoyed traveling widely throughout the U.S. and overseas to Jordan, Israel, Australia and Germany. She found pleasure in being outside, especially when swimming or spending the summers camping at Ponderosa Pines. Dorothy was an accomplished gardener whose prized Japanese tree peonies earned themselves a one-page spread in the Eagle! The delight she found being outdoors was mirrored in her artwork, where she beautifully depicted birds, other wildlife, flowers and nature scenes. As a member of the Pittsfield Art League, she won awards for her paintings. She was also extremely fond of ceramics. Dorothy was an animal lover, whose favorite pet was her beloved dog, a Samoyed named K2. Additionally, she was a member of Zion's Lutheran Church in Pittsfield.
Dorothy was an inspiring and loving mother to Laura Danylin of Manasota Key, Florida and Dale Danylin of Charlemont, MA; a loving grandmother to Daniel and Alanna Duprez and Emma and Tucker Danylin. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her former husband Jack Danylin.
