Dorothy "Dotty" Chance, age 87, of Millington, MD passed away Friday April 1, 2022.
She is survived by her loving husband William M. Chance, Jr; sister Carolyn Coleman; children Charles, Susan & David (Sandy) Chance, grandsons Joshua, Hayden & Peyton Chance; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents John & Mary Eva Edwards of Massey, MD; sisters Elizabeth "Lizzy" Pyle, Virginia "Ginny" Hollett, Eva "Mae" Wiest; brothers John "Jackie" Edwards, Joseph Edwards, James "Jim" Edwards; son William Robert Chance; and her grandson William "Billy" Lewis.
Born on March 8, 1935 in Massey, MD, Dotty lived in Kent County her entire life. As a young girl, she enjoyed playing tennis & basketball. She graduated from Galena High School in 1953, shortly after the opening of the brick building on Main Street in 1949.
Shortly after graduating, Dotty married William "Billy" Chance and the two began to grow their family. In addition to being a wonderful mother, she was a dedicated member of the local Homemaker's Club and enjoyed painting porcelain pottery, gardening, and flower arranging. She was a true farm wife, running the hay baler and pitching in wherever needed to keep the farm running. She worked at Peebles in Chestertown and volunteered at Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital and in the lunchroom at Millington Elementary.
She loved trips to the beach and playing cards; country music and watching the hummingbirds return in spring; days at the salon and "doing her dealing" (shopping).
Above all, Dotty was a loving mother and grandmother, exceptionally proud of the family she built. She was most at home at a family dinner or reunion, and never missed a concert, musical, art show or t-ball game.
She will be missed by a family she loved deeply.
A viewing was held at the Galena Funeral Home on Tuesday with Funeral service on Wednesday at St. Clement's Episcopal Church in Massey, MD, with burial at Galena Cemetery
