Dorothy Elizabeth Baute, 95, a resident of Seymour, Indiana, passed from this life at 11:50 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.
Mrs. Baute was born January 20, 1925, in Jackson County, Indiana, the loving daughter of the late Clyde Jacob and Dorothy D. Wheeler Zike. On October 22, 1949, Dorothy married Jack E. Baute; he preceded her in death April 17, 2006.
Mrs. Baute was a custodian for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation retiring after many years of service. She was a member of the Ohio Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Baute loved the family farm that she and her husband cared for and worked on for many years. She cherished her grandchildren and enjoyed gardening and IU basketball games.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Dennis L. (Nina) Baute of Columbus, Indiana, Shelley I. Baute of Norman, Indiana, William R. Baute of Westport, Indiana and Cindy J. Baute of Cumming, Georgia; brother, Harold (Alice) Zike of Seymour, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Baute was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Dorothy Zike; brothers, Bruce Zike and Eugene Zike; sisters, Marie Beavers, Lucille Graham and Freda Graham; and grandsons, Mark L. Baute and William Jacob Baute.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Charles Kennedy will officiate. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. We do ask that visitors follow social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are required.
Mrs. Baute will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Garland Brook Cemetery.
