Dorothy Leola Apsey, age 98, of Royal Oak, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022.
Beloved wife of the late Eldon. Mother of Maralynn and Barbara, and grandmother of three.
Dorothy completed twenty-eight years of service as a supervisor with Michigan Bell. Outside of work, she was passionate about cultural exchange. She belonged to People to People, through which she hosted visitors from thirteen countries, including from Ritto, Japan. And alongside her husband, she traveled to fifty-two countries, at times staying in the private residences of local hosts. Notably, Dorothy was particularly proud of the correspondence she maintained with U.S. troops during WW II. During this period, she corresponded with 125 servicemen, helping provide a welcome connection and support for those serving far from home.
A memorial gathering will take place on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, from 2:00 pm until time of service, 3:00 pm, at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak.
In lieu of flowers, friends of Dorothy are encouraged to consider a donation to their favorite charity.
