Doris Ann Stecher, 81, of New Underwood, SD, was born on October 8, 1940 to Harry and Gladys Burmeister. She passed away peacefully in her home on June 10, 2022, after long battle with cancer.
Doris was born and raised in Wasta, SD. She went to school in Wasta, and received her GED the same year her oldest daughter graduated from high school. Before settling in New Underwood, SD, she lived in multiple of states. Doris worked at Faith Lutheran Church in Rapid City, SD as a secretary for over 20 years, and worked for the New Underwood Cemetery until she retired.
Doris loved spending time with her many family members and friends making memories from playing cards, bunco and darts. Doris loved to sew and has made many different things, but her passion was making quilts. Every family member has a quilt that was made by her. Not only family members received a quilt, but several individuals received a quilt for a special occasion or just a donation.
She is survived by her children: Darlene (Kent) Sether of New Underwood, SD; Richard (Tina) Evans of Grayson, KY; Clara (Richard) Jobgen of Kadoka, SD; Peggy (Tim) Boardman of Moorcroft, WY; Charlotte Clark of Tacoma, WA; Michael Stecher of Leesville, LA. Doris is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren as a part of her legacy. Also having shared her life are her daughter-in-law, Wendy Philipsen of New Underwood, SD and neighbor/friend, Linda Cudmore also of New Underwood. Doris’s siblings include: Lois Garrow of Billings, MT; Jack (Penny) Burmeister of Rapid City, SD; Ginger Sandahl of Olympia, WA; Barbara Cox of Lexington, KY; Peggy (John) Masterson of New Underwood, SD; Darrel (Cathy) Burmeister of Wentworth, SD; Tammy Magazu Ray of San Diego, CA; and Jona Crews Burmeister of Pensacola, FL.
Preceding her in death were parents Harry and Gladys Burmeister; brother Jerry Burmeister; sister Ruth Shell; and grandson Casey Boardman.
