Doris Frazier Ricketts, 96, of St. Leonard, formerly of Rockville, died July 27, 2001 at Lorien Mt. Airy.
Born July 21, 1925 in New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Katie B. Frazier and the late Lucian C. Frazier.
She was the loving wife of the late Theodore A. Ricketts, Jr. They were married just shy of 60 years at the time of his death in 2008.
When Doris was very young, the family moved back to Franklinville, N.C. where she grew up. She graduated a year early from high school and headed to Baltimore where she earned her R.N. from the Baltimore School of Nursing.
She remained in Maryland and accepted a position with Chestnut Lodge Sanitarium in Rockville. It was during her time in Rockville that she met Ted. They married in 1948. She continued nursing until the birth of their first child in 1950.
Doris was a long-time member of Christ Episcopal Church in Rockville and donated many hours to the church thrift shop, the Bargain Box. She loved sewing and made most of her daughters' clothing, including their wedding gowns.
She is survived by daughters, Susan Brooks and husband Ned of New Market and Becky Ricketts of Mt. Airy. She is also survived by grandchildren, Amanda Brooks of Monrovia, Lindsey Galmin and husband Gary of Prince Frederick, Katy Lynch and husband Fred of Prince Frederick, Todd Brooks and wife Tina of Urbana, and Andy Hocker and wife Christine of Mt. Airy; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by siblings, Maxine F. King, William H. Frazier and Betty Jane Milliner.
