Doris Darlene Reichert went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the age of 95.
She was born April 22, 1927 in Shickley, Nebraska to parents Hildur and Ivar Swanson. She lived on a farm and attended a one room school. The family joked about blowing out of Nebraska in a dust storm and they landed in Burlington, Washington in 1937.
Doris graduated from Burlington Edison High School in 1944. She met Herbert Reichert while he was in the US Navy stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. They were married November 15, 1944. They celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in January 2006.
Doris was church organist at Burlington Lutheran Church for over 60 years and was choir director for many years. She helped maintain the church library. She also worked at the Burlington Edison High School Library for 15 years.
Doris enjoyed ladies bible study and many church activities. She and Herb enjoyed traveling to Nebraska and the East Coast to visit family. She was an avid reader and volunteered many hours at the Burlington Public Library in her retirement. She loved word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and playing bingo at Creekside where she resided for the last year. Her iPad was her favorite thing where the family shared pictures with her. She loved to show it to anyone and everyone that came to visit her. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren and the "great-grands" as she called them. She was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Doris is survived by two sons, Bruce (Eileen) Reichert and Tim (Tracy) Reichert; one daughter, Naomi (Rick) Vander Griend; five grandchildren, Aaron (Kristin) Reichert, Andrew (Christine) Reichert, Jason (Malissa) Reichert, Michelle (Matthew) Posocco and Jared Vander Griend; great-grandchildren, Tallis, Eleanor, Odin, James, Malakai, Arlo and Theo; In-laws, Carolyn Swanson, Ruth and Ron Kester and many nieces, nephews and second cousins.
