Doris June Brown, age 88, passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 7, 2022. On October 17, 1933, she was born to Thomas J. and Opal Bowling Nelson in Memphis, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Earl "Buddy" Brown; her brothers, Thomas and Howard L. Nelson, and her son, John Brown. She was a modest, patient person, contented with the simple things in life. She told everyone that she was a Southside Scrapper; she stayed true to being a Scrapper right up to the end. Her favorite sport to watch on television was professional football, and her favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys; Doris was a diehard fan. She valued her family and close friends and enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 91: He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. So I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God; in Him will I trust. Doris married Robert "Bobby" Knowles and subsequently reared her four children who survived her; Michael "Eddie" Knowles, Robin Eugene Knowles (Linda), Teresa Nance (Terry), Angela Merigian (Kevin); and her step children, Chynena (Virgle) Ayers, Theresa Garcia, Karen (John) Ioane, Kim Brown, and Cherity (Josh) Caldwell. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Ware and her husband Bobby, who lives in Overland Park, Kansas; her children and their spouses; Twenty-seven grandchildren, her nephews and nieces, numerous great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Family and friends will celebrate her life with a graveside service on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 2:00 PM, Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh LaGrange Rd, Memphis, Tennessee, 38134. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Buddy.
