Doris Jo Stovall Hamblin, age 90, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.
She was born on November 23, 1930 in Austin, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Austin, attended the University of Texas and became an avid Texas Longhorn fan. She was married on March 5, 1948 to her high school sweetheart, Herbert Andrew (Buddy) Hamblin. Doris and Buddy celebrated 61 years of marriage before Buddy's passing in 2010. They raised five children: Bonnie Kay, Steve Ray and Stan Clay (twins), Jeff Jay, and Sherrie Gay.
In addition to being a housewife, mother and great cook, Doris established Hamblin Music Studios and became a well-known piano teacher in Barton Hills of South Austin for forty years. During that time she served as the President of the Austin District Music Teachers Association, and participated in Piano Guild and many music festivals every year. The studio had as many as 80-100 students a year, and the twice-yearly piano recitals seemed like professional concerts. She left a legacy of love for music to everyone she touched. Her two daughters became piano teachers themselves and other family members played in high school and university bands and performed in choirs and church music ministries.
Doris served as church pianist to West Austin Baptist Church, Park Hills Baptist Church and Kinney Avenue Baptist Church of Austin. She was active in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and Women's Auxiliary as part of her church life.
In later life she became an avid golfer at Lago Vista Country Club, and she was forever proud of her hole-in-one. She was involved in the life of the Lago Vista community. She loved to dance the jitterbug, to dress up in fancy clothes and high-heeled shoes (always with lots of bling), and her favorite color was pink. Her beautiful smile and infectious personality would light up any room. She liked to have fun and now she gets to dance with the angels!
Doris is preceded in death by her husband Buddy, her parents R.C. Stovall Jr. and Dorothy (Fariss) Stovall, her sisters Nell Stovall Miller and Dottie Sue Patton, and her nephew Collier Dean Patton. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Bonnie (Stephen) Yeager of Houston, Steve (Linda) Hamblin of Kyle, Stan (Linda) Hamblin of Midland, Jeff Hamblin of Austin, and Sherrie (Jay) Stewart of Austin. She is beloved "MeMe Dear" to her eight grandchildren, Kim, Krissy, Matt, Amber, Laura, Aaron, Claire and Christopher, and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 15, 2021 at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Chapel, 6300 W. William Cannon Dr, Austin. Service to follow at 2:00 PM with Joseph Martin officiating.
