Doris "Dee" (Bernard) Felty, age 70 of Easthampton, MA, passed away peacefully February 24th, 2021. She was born on April 7th, 1950 in Springfield, MA, to Blanche and Alphie Bernard.
Dee was predeceased by her loving husband, James Felty. She is survived by her four children and stepdaughter, Melissa Norton, Lindsay Ciavattone, Ross Dukette, Christopher O'Neill, and Jessica McDaniel; four grandchildren, Natalie Norton, Benjamin Ciavattone, Thomas Ciavattone, and Isabella Ciavattone; and one great grandchild, Tristan Ciavattone.
Our mother, Dee, or "MaDee" as some called her, was an incredibly strong and caring woman. She bravely followed her passions in life by having her own in-home daycare, an interior decorator business, and a lifelong career in healthcare. She was a lover and student of music, most notably playing the accordion on The Lawrence Welk Show. Jim and Dee saw as many Broadway musicals together as they could. She loved taking the bus into the city!
Dee embraced all people, and was a source of light in their lives. It was rare to go out in public without seeing someone who knew her. She always made new friends no matter where we went! Dee is also well known for her honest and witty personality. She was never afraid to tell you like it was, or affectionately tease you about anything and everything. Even during her final days, she was making jokes and finding ways to keep everyone laughing.
Dee was passionate about animals her entire life. She rescued many dogs through her lifetime, as well as fostering pups who needed a helping hand. She also loved cats, and the fish in her backyard pond (that she dug herself!). Later in life, Jim and Dee enjoyed watching the birds come to the feeders set up in the window of their home. We know being reunited with her husband and pets has filled her heart.
Due to the Covid 19 restrictions at this time, a celebration of Dee's life will be scheduled at a later date and time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dee's name to the Dakin Humane Society, as this organization was important to her.
