Dora Cortez Rodriguez, 87 of Corpus Christi, Texas went to the Lord after a lengthy illness on January 16, 2019. Dora was born to Santiago Cortez and Marcella Trevino Cortez from San Benito, Texas. Dora graduated from San Benito High School and went on to Brownsville Junior College. On September 3, 1954, Dora married the love of her life, Jose Omar Rodriguez. Dora was a bookkeeper with Young and Associates and Cuellar Business Consultants. Her strength was her faith and family. She had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother. Her devotion led her to consecrating her life to the Blessed Mother Thrice Admirable and eventually becoming a Mother's Branch Leader with the Schoenstatt movement. Dora was a long-time member of Christ the King parish. Mom had a special gift and talent for sewing, knitting, embroidery but her love poured through her handmade quilts/blanks which she made for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had great love for her family. Dora enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and playing scrabble with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Santiago Cortez and Marcella Trevino Cortez. Husband, Jose Omar Rodriguez. Brothers, Esteban Cortez, Richard Cortez, Santiago Cortez Jr. Sister, Maria Elena Rodriguez. Daughter, Juanita "Janie" Rodriguez.
She is survived by her children Alma Gloria Riley (Robin), Sylvia Ann Rodriguez, Daniel Omar Rodriguez, Zelda Elizabeth Paschal, Irma Isabel Garza (Xavier), Estella Marie Rodriguez. Grandchildren include Sean Riley, Christian Riley, Laurie De La Torre, Alexis De La Torre, Cristina Soth, Danielle Jayne Rodriguez, Vincent V. Garza, Jason Omar Rodriguez, Jonathan Quinones, Juliette Quinones. Great-grandchildren include Connor Riley, Lillian Riley, Ava Marie Davila, Ella Grace Davila, Reed Soth and Rory Soth. She is survived by her sisters, Mrs. Lidia Garcia (Alberto), Teresa Torres (Elias), and Terry Montez.
Visitation is on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors, 4901 Everhart Road from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm with Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3423 Rojo Street, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
