Help us celebrate Donnie! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Donnie.
Donnie Hall, 72, of Houston, Texas passed away July 9, 2021 after a difficult battle from injuries sustained in a fall. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend.
Donnie was born in Iraan, Texas in January 1949 and moved frequently between Texas and Oklahoma, where he made friends along the way. He attended Pampa High School and graduated from West Texas State University with a bachelors and master's degrees.
Donnie joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Hood in the 2nd Armored Div. as a lieutenant. On 2 tours to Germany, he enjoyed exploring Bavaria in an old VW with one of his army buddies. After returning to the states, he was promoted to Captain and held stations in Fort Knox and Fort Dix.
In 1978, a friend set up a double date and once Donnie met Peggy, he was on cloud 9. The rest is history, as they enjoyed 42 wonderful years together as soulmates, parents and friends. They traveled extensively in the US and did a Grand Tour of Europe in 2015. Donnie's nomadic past brought out his love of travel and we're grateful for the wanderlust that we inherited. When summers were fast approaching, he would reach for the trusty Woodall's directory and look for places to explore in NM and CO while mapping out routes in his atlas.
Donnie enjoyed teaching at Permian Basin High School, but the siren call of an oil industry boom could not be ignored. He decided to follow in his father's footsteps as a roughneck and eventually became an Accountant with Cities Services later, Occidental. He was a mentor and friend to many during his 29 years with Oxy.
Survivors include his loving wife, Peggy Hall of Houston, son Bryan Hall, of Pflugerville, daughter Sarah Hall of Houston, his brother, Jimmie (Laura) Hall of Amarillo, brother-in-law, Paul Nance of Midland as well as numerous relatives scattered across the great state of Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Armedie Hall.
Military Honors will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Houston National Cemetery (followed by a Celebration of Life service to be held at 10:45am at CFBC Jersey Village, located at 16518 Jersey Dr, Jersey Village, TX 77040.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands for their dedication and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations made to the charity of your choice or to Houston Area Parkinson's Society (HAPS) as they have been a great support network since his 2012 diagnosis. He enjoyed his classes and the friends made over the years with HAPS.
