Donna Mae Ogren, age 86, of DeSmet SD, peacefully passed away in her home on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. Public visitation will be on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Osthus Funeral Chapel in DeSmet SD. Face masks are encouraged. Inurnment will be scheduled at a later date.
Donna Mae Ogren was born May 9, 1934, on the farm in rural Lake Norden, SD. She was the youngest of Jens and Christine (Jensen) Madsen's nine children. She graduated from Bryant High School in 1952. After graduation, Donna moved to New Jersey where she worked as a secretary and lived with her sister while Allan was serving in the Korean War. She married Allan George Ogren on February 14, 1954. The couple settled and raised three children on the farm north of DeSmet that became known as the Diamond A Ranch. Donna and Allan were active in the Limousin Cattle Association and farming a variety of crops. They moved to a home east of DeSmet and lived there until Allan passed on September 2, 2013. Donna then moved into the town of DeSmet and resided there until her death. Donna was a member of the American Lutheran Church and a board member for the DeSmet Depot Museum. She enjoyed playing cards and games, travel and listening to most genres of music. A big part of her life was cooking, and loved to share it with everyone. She also loved to spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, Jim (Mary) Ogren of DeSmet, SD; Randy Ogren of DeSmet, SD and Valarie (Linn) Vig of Claire City SD; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Jessica, Becca, Alyssa, Alex, Jason, Shannon, and Jenna; and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers, Vernal, Lloyd, Howard, and Ronald; and four sisters, Irene, Lucille, Della and Hazel.
